INDUSTRIAL POWER SYSTEM ENGINEERING AND DEVICE COORDINATION – Yogyakarta

INDUSTRIAL POWER SYSTEM ENGINEERING AND DEVICE COORDINATION – Yogyakarta
Hotel Ibis Styles Dagen, Yogyakarta | 29 – 31 Desember 2014 | IDR 6.500.000 per participant

DESCRIPTION

Power system protection is a branch of electrical power engineering that deals with the protection of electrical power systems from faults through the isolation of faulted parts from the rest of the electrical network. The objective of a protection scheme is to keep the power system stable by isolating only the components that are under fault, whilst leaving as much of the network as possible still in operation. Thus, protection schemes must apply a very pragmatic and pessimistic approach to clearing system faults. For this reason, the technology and philosophies utilized in protection schemes can often be old and well-established because they must be very reliable. while the protective device coordination is the process of determining the “best fit” timing of current interruption occur when abnormal electrical conditions. The goal is to minimize an outage to the greatest extent possible. Historically, protective device coordination was done on translucent log-log paper. Modern methods normally include detailed computer based analysis and reporting

TRAINING OBJECTIVES

This course is designed for electrical engineers responsible for industrial or commercial power systems planning, designs for reliability and overall system performance. Students will calculate available short circuit current at varied power system one-line locations to learn how to properly size fuses, cables, breakers and transformers. By learning protective device coordination, load shedding may be accomplished with minimal impact to power system operation.

TRAINING OUTLINES

  • Short circuit calculations
  • Power factor improvement
  • Recommended motor / generator / transformer protection
  • Switchgear and system voltage selection
  • Voltage drop / flicker reduction
  • Equipment / system grounding practices
  • Load estimating techniques
  • Plant modernization recommendations
  • Protective device coordination

– Fuses and thermal overload devices

– Electro-mechanical and solid state relays

– Transformers, cables and bus bars

– Circuit breakers
